Rating system

Because rating systems differ for every single person, I’m gonna give you a quick overview of what mine mean! I work with .5 ratings as well, but this is the basic concept:

★ → These can either be the books that fill me with rage or the books I can’t look at without feeling incredibly disappointed. With these books, it’s really easy to pinpoint what went wrong for me personally. Some of these might be books I view as problematic.

★★ → Most of the times, these are the books I feel very “hmmm” about. There’s really not much to say for me as I often feel really empty after reading books like this. Not for me and sadly didn’t enjoy it.

★★★ → Many people don’t think three stars is a good rating, but I really enjoyed these books! It was a story I had a great time with, but overall maybe not memorable or something felt off. I can’t say I loved the book, but it was still really good!

★★★★ → See, I LOVE books I rated this! I had the best time with them and there’s a great chance I cried because, well, I always do! These are the books that really stay with me.

★★★★★ → You can just insert distant sobbing and lots of screaming for multiple reasons here.

That’s all you need to know, I think! Little disclaimer though: my thoughts on books can change pretty quickly because I tend to rate a book right after I’ve finished it and gut feelings can change when time passes. On my blog, I don’t go back to change the rating so not everything is accurate here. On Goodreads, I sometimes do but it is not guaranteed.

I also obviously rate things from my experience and I’m very aware that everyone has a reason for (not) liking a book. If I don’t like a book I review, that doesn’t mean you won’t/can’t! Also important: I’m always honest with my ratings and reviews as I really value this myself.

I hope everything’s clear!

Love,
Birdie
